Therapeutic Recreation
Improving quality of life for individuals with disabilities
Milwaukee Recreation has a long history of serving individuals with disabilities. Since 1961, our well-trained, caring instructors have empowered all participants to discover their abilities, build confidence, and experience the joys of recreation. Activities include creative arts, social gatherings, and group outings. These programs not only improve physical and emotional well-being but also foster inclusion, equity, and understanding throughout our community.
Classes are offered throughout the year at various locations in the city of Milwaukee. Participants are given the opportunity to recreate in a wide variety of activities with outstanding staff members to guide them to success.
Adaptations are made to facilitate active participation of all participants. In addition to quality programming, participants have constant opportunities to socialize and build lifelong friendships. Beyond just fun and games, recreation participation brings opportunities for physical fitness, increased self-confidence, cooperation, and positive use of leisure time.
All programs are led by trained staff/leaders and have a 1-to-4 staff/participant ratio. Agencies and group homes enrolling four or more participants must provide support staff to assist the Recreation staff during the program.
Choose from a wide variety of classes, including fitness, computers, video games, cultural events, dances and instruction, swim instruction, personal training, cooking, scrapbooking, bowling, and more. Try something new or return for more excitement each season!
