Completed Projects

Leveling the playing field with equity-based planning
Milwaukee Recreation is on a mission to revitalize 52 play spaces in Milwaukee. These renovations transform aging facilities into modern, accessible community gathering places. Each project follows an equity-based approach and incorporates community input while meeting safety standards and accessibility requirements.
Based on the work completed via the Equity Prioritization Model, a series of projects are already complete! See below for more information about the department's completed projects thus far. You can also view this YouTube playlist to watch recaps of our ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
Our playfield projects have received national recognition for innovative urban recreation design. Award-winning features include sustainable stormwater systems, accessible play structures, multi-generational activity zones, and culturally relevant elements that celebrate neighborhood identity. These accolades from urban planning and landscape architecture organizations validate our commitment to creating exceptional public spaces. The recognition also highlights how Milwaukee Recreation’s approach to playfield renovation establishes new standards for inclusive, sustainable community recreation spaces.
