MPS RECREATION REDUCED ACTIVITY FEE POLICY
(School Age Children Only)
The MPS Recreation Division believes that all children should have access to quality recreation activities. Thus, children who received free or reduced school lunch, may be eligible for an activity discount. Youth recreation classes over $10 are eligible for a $5 discount while youth recreation classes $30 and over are eligible for a $10 discount. Most field trips, special events, and admission fees are not eligible and are noted in the activity description.
In order to qualify for a reduced activity fee, the following guidelines must be followed:
SCHOOL ENROLLMENT:
Milwaukee Public Schools students: Must have a current school lunch application on file with the MPS School Lunch Office.
Non Milwaukee Public Schools students: A letter on school letterhead with the following information must be attached to the child’s activity registration form:
1. Letter should indicate that the child is eligible for free/reduced school lunch according to federal poverty levels
2. Letter must be dated showing current school year
3. Parent/guardian and child’s name must be included
4. Child’s date of birth
Children not enrolled in school (e.g., birth to ages 1 and 2, etc.) are not eligible for the reduced activity discount.
Home Schooled Children: Will need to provide documentation through other means. Please call
414-475-8186 to discuss alternative documentation.
ADDITIONAL POLICY INFORMATION:
Free/reduced lunch documentation must be provided each school year for the current school year.
Documentation will not be honored after a registration has been received and processed. Documentation that is not current, or cannot be verified will not be accepted and the parent/guardian will be charged the full activity price.
At the present time, discounts are not available via internet registration and adjustments will not be made for individuals who pay full price online.
In order to qualify for a family discount, additional family members must be siblings and reside at the same residence.
