GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP
Volunteers needed for April 19 community cleanup event
Milwaukee Recreation is seeking eco-friendly individuals and/or groups to join this year's Community Cleanup Day at Hawthorn Glen, 1130 N. 60th St., on Saturday, April 19 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Volunteers will be asked to pick up litter throughout the 23-acre nature center. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Everyone who volunteers for at least one half hour will be given one free admission coupon for a local attraction (the Milwaukee County Zoo or Milwaukee County Parks Swimming Pool/Water Slide). For more information, please call (414) 647-6067.
The April 19 Community Cleanup Day is part of the Great American Cleanup, a nationwide effort to promote environmental awareness while keeping litter and graffiti off the streets. Local sponsors include Milwaukee Recreation, Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful (KGMB), and Milwaukee County.
"This is a great way for any individual or organization to give something back to the community while paradoxically taking something away," says MPS Assistant Recreation Supervisor Kevin Reed. "We encourage families, scout troops, churches, temples, schools, businesses, civic organizations, and neighborhood associations to play a role."
