The MPS Partnership for the Arts is an allocation of $1 million per school year approved by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors to support Arts opportunities for children and youth in after school and summer programs. Funds are only released when a dollar-for-dollar match is received from outside MPS to support additional Arts opportunities for children and youth. By only offering the funds with a dollar-for-dollar match, the Partnership for the Arts is doubling the impact of Arts opportunities offered while also creating new partnerships between schools, youth serving organizations, the funding community and the incredible resource of our strong Arts community in Milwaukee.
Since the 2006-2007 school year, the MPS Partnership for the Arts has granted $3,981,388 of new funding and has encouraged $3,246,836 in additional matching support for Arts opportunities through approximately 52 different organizations serving 86,000 children at 177 schools.
The primary goals of the MPS Partnership for the Arts are to:
• Expand arts-related experiences for city of Milwaukee children, youth, and adults accompanying children in activities.
•
Increase the number of enriching activities that connect the arts to academic learning.
•
Strengthen existing and establish new community partnerships that motivate students to higher levels of academic and artistic achievement.
•
Increase resources and support for arts education in the schools and community.
